A dark force with a will to evil is loose in the world.
So the church believes and so many others observe. The church further believes spirits in purgatory can be tethered to specific earthly places, such as rooms, and have a range of influence reaching only twenty to forty feet. They say human spirits can move only up to twenty pounds; any more, it’s demonic.
They say there are hauntings, which are relatively benign, and then demonic infestations, oppressions, and possessions. Those are the three levels of intensity.
They fear all dabbling in the occult, including ghost hunting, because they fear letting demons in. Why demons require our permission or invitation is not addressed, nor, if they do, why our desire for them to leave would then not suffice to rid us of them.
One exorcist actually said, “We sprinkle holy water because it seems to hurt them, what ever they are.” So they ignorantly revel in inflicting pain.
Truth is, they have no clue either what they are messing with, and exorcism works only sometimes and often only partially. How do they know their gods and angels are not deceptive demons, extraterrestrials, or psychologies?
They don’t. They can’t.
Heeding the church in matters spiritual is as iffy as heeding a OUIJA board or the words of a cult leader.
Yes, there is a dark force with a will to evil loose in the world. What it is, no one knows. How to fight it? Only by radiating positive, benign, and healing energy and by doing what we can to lessen suffering at arm’s length.
Beyond such vague guidelines, we are each on his or her or its own. Good luck warding off the dark force as we stumble in the dark. Maybe it can’t see any better than we can what’s going on.
