Rusting Lock

I am not, cannot be
Shiny child remembered,
Child smarter, faster, sharper.
I am what is left.
Not dregs, not residue;
More uneroded stone,
Exposed core,
A scrimshaw ego.
Child is gone but lingers.
I am lingering but gone.
