Mononucleosis is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus, which is a retrovirus – goes dormant and can surface to flatten us. Its origins remain mysterious.
Lyme disease, another retro virus, almost certainly came from biological weapons experiments on Plum Island. It was carried to the mainland – Lyme, Connecticut – by ticks, likely on deer, rabbits, rats and so on. Birds too may have spread it – we do not have any evidence of the experimenters dosing Lyme Connecticut. There is precedent for dosing, though: Loudon, France is a notorious example. Blamed for years on bad rye and ergot mold, the outbreak of hallucinatory “madness” was really caused by LSD in aerosol. Spooks wanted a test in real world conditions of weaponized LSD.
CIA and MI-6 likely collaborated on the town’s dosing and no less a personage than Aldous Huxley wrote a propaganda book to cement the ergot diversion/cover story in the public mind. The Devils of Loudon is the book.
It worked so well most still cite it and it spawned a spliced branch of archaeology focused on studying the effects of drug use among ancient peoples. There were reasons to pursue this line of research such as cocoa, a New World plant, having been found in Egyptian mummies or the visions reported by pilgrims to Delphi, who drank an elixir before seeing the wonders. Even Stonehenge had its drums and flickering firelight and probably various psychotropic plant compounds. Holy places offered holy experiences stoners recognize today.
While shamanic use of mind-glow drugs is standard and well-known, including it in scholarly discussions of the Greek Eleusynian mysteries is relatively new in Classical studies. Citing drugs as a basis for religious revelation is similarly a recent phenomenon. New avenues of research are being opened via this route, as witness the ibogaine controversies; does it cure major addictions in a single dose? Does it open the shamanic gateway for all?
None of this relates to Loudon or its dark roots in espionage and shadow wars.
If you dose a village of superstitiously religious peasants with a hallucinogenic drug then of course you will spark crazy religious-based experiences. The Devils of Loudon is likely accurate in its reporting of the effects, if not their cause. This in turn makes not only incapacitating a targeted population feasible but perhaps allows programming by exploitation of cultural memes, tropes, and topoi.
Still, so much of our media reporting and history is skewed from or substituted for what really happened, either by the accidents of perception, cultural blinders and boxes, and insufficient fact being available or due to willful, conscious decisions to cover up, mislead, and lie, that it quickly becomes too muddled to make sense of. Criminals thrive in such blur and many are in positions to do the spinning and lying that unfocused us.
Those who can will lie continually to keep us baffled, herded, and owned, some say. Look, they say, at the GOP, linked to the money boys and spooks who run for cockroach cover every time one of their fuck-ups threatens to expose them. They are society’s rats in the walls, its fleas bearing the Black Death, its parasitic pestilence trying to manipulate, control, and own it’s host. They are psychopaths, our worst, and the politicians and CEOs use them. Expedience creates contingency. Their war fog against clarity lets them continue their crimes — think how Big Tobacco blew a smoke screen for decades by obfuscating the science, or the Koch brothers doing the same with pollution’s effect on our environment. By suborning false conclusions and buying corruptible researchers, these criminals were able to dismantle American education and science. Now 25% of US scientists must leave America to be able to get funding or do their work. Our schools are the world’s joke where once they were the world’s shining example. All this and more done with duped religionists, disenfranchised rubes, and greedy politicians eager to be bribed to promote psychopathic corporate fascism.
To own us.
They generally do a good job, alas. We the people generally do a bad job of seeing through and of opposing these agendas.
Slaughtering people is probably the least of it, if the bluntest. Retro viral warfare, with most of us dosed and ready to be turned off when the right signal awakens the dormant plague we carry, is here and we are all potential carriers and victims.
It is long past time to investigate and confront the fact of biochemical research and warfare. There is no reason to wait until it is too late and confirms our worst fears.
