Occult symbols sell because people like to think they’re into things others don’t know about. Exclusivity, y’know? It also flies in the face of conformist values, proven time and again to be hollow control mechanisms.
“The owls are not what they seem.” (TWIN PEAKS). True. At times they’re screen memories of abduction experiencers. An owl is wisdom, Athena’s and Sophia’s silent night flier. They can also be watchers, or symbolic of messages sent and received, as in Potter.
Bohemian Grove’s ritual of the immolation of Care is simply an invocation to let one’s ordinary concerns go for the weekend, where debauchery and, they claim, gay sex is a big thing. An owl statue is used as a backdrop to the rather silly play, which features Charon and Egyptian and other cultural referents. Rich people having sad little fun, really, with powerful symbolism.
Symbols are indeed powerful. Semiotics is the academic discipline to look into.
As Above, So Below is simply an expression of the fact that the universe is recapitulated in the human body, and vice versa. The Sephiroth is the human body, rather akin to the Chakra charts one sees. Each is a stage in life, too.
Kanye is a fucking idiot. Do not cite him wearing a tee shirt or what have you as significant in any way other than sheer narcissistic idiocy.
In many ads and publicity shots of athletes, rappers, and such,I don’t think the dude is posed as Baphomet, which is not Satan, by the way. Baphomet’s pose is a mudra, more complex than As Above, So Below. Raised two fingers of left hand indicates left-hand path, and the horned one, Cernnunos, which the Christian freaks devolved into their Devil. The right hand of Baphomet is palm outward and down, indicating the world of material things. We are, in short, living a spiritual journey in a material world. Hello, George Harrison.
Occult symbols are indeed effective marketing, so fashionistas, musicians, actors, and other insecure artists seek to belong, and hope for an advantage to be gained by Gnostic Cabala or so-called Satanism, or what have you. They hope to find connections, as in the many Lodges so popular in the 1800s, such as the Freemasons or the Order of Elk or the like. All used esoterica and symbology understood to a greater or usually lesser degree to bond groups so they’d help each other. Conspiracy, collusion, and price fixing result.
Thus we see the spiritual devolved to Capitalism and greed-based materialism. Consumerism is another word for such a cancer.
Esoterica rules things simply because it elucidates Nature in symbolic behavior and patterns. That such are then exploited for venal purposes is no surprise to students of so-called human nature, which by rights should be called inhuman and unnatural, if harmonizing with Nature is the goal.
But enough for tonight of these notes toward a pointless essay no one wants to read, the contents and contentions of which no one wishes to know.
