Considered Thoughts

My brain is considering. Brain vomit ahead.

Last night I finished listening to the podcast, Bag Man, about President Nixon’s VP, Agnew. There are very equal comparisons between Trump and Agnew. The last episode, about the final bits of the story, and asking those involved 45 years later, how they felt about their decisions and actions at the time, really made me think about how we feel as young people, and middle aged people, and elders.

There is a reason the youth are forward thinking and full of hope, and have the babies.

There are reasons for traditions and loyalty.

There are life lessons that beat out the optimism as we age.

It got me thinking about the myth that we as humans need, to hold us together as a people. Whether that myth be about justice, religious loyalty, equal rights, or democracy, there is an ideal idea that holds those who believe it together.

There is the “letter of the law” which assumes many things depending on who is debating it, and what has been written or not written, and in what historical context.

There is also “the spirit of the law” which is aiming toward the modern idea of what the law was intended to achieve, with just as many stumbling blocks.

There is lawless, which could be a free for all, chaos, and crime, or maybe no different than any day to day interaction. There is a lot of selfishness and greed that divide us. Just because “it’s the way things get done”, doesn’t mean it’s lawful or right/wrong.

Do we want hope and optimism?

Can we make changes for the good?

I like considering these things. I’m listening to Sapiens and The Power of Myth right now as well. Humans are the most destructive animals in the history of the Earth. Myth is the center of it, or we’d be no different animals than the birds or dolphins.

Gosh communication is hard.

My hope is that humans can work to provide a community of support, materials for health and creativity, and share with others to give our children modeling for the golden rule. Money and happiness are myths and choices too. We can all make better choices.

End brain vomit.

I encourage listening/ reading and discussing these podcasts, books and thoughts.

Now back to my prep and packing. Gosh I have lots to keep my brain busy on tomorrow’s flight. (So glad my hiragana/katakana and Human Japanese apps work in airplane mode. And that I’m working on knitting a sock and practicing italic English calligraphy) …

I’m off to shower now.
